From the meeting point you will be taken on an iconic journey along the “Queen of the Fjords”, the Hardangerfjord. This fjord is the second-longest and one of the deepest fjords in Norway and has a very rich Viking history. There will be several photo stops on this scenic drive towards the picturesque town of Odda, allowing you to take in the fascinating beauty of the fjord landscape.
The Hardangerfjord region is known as “Norway’s Orchard” thanks to its abundance of apple, pear, plum and cherry trees. These orchards are easily spotted in the area surrounding the village of Lofthus. This mesmerising landscape served as a source of inspiration for one of Norway’s most celebrated and world-renowned composers, Edvard Grieg, whose summer residence was located in this charming village.
At one of the rest stops, Espenes, you will find an impressive 64-meter-long and 4-meter-wide steel structure with 12 different roof models. From this distinctive pavilion you can enjoy close views of the Sørfjord, a branch of Hardangerfjord. We will follow the road along the Sørfjord until we reach Odda.
In Odda, you will enjoy a delicious Viking-style lunch. The restaurant is inspired by a Viking longhouse and features numerous architectural elements reminiscent of a stave church. The design and the interior create a truly unique and atmospheric setting. It offers you a one-of-a-kind experience that perfectly blends a historic ambiance with the spectacular beauty of the surrounding nature.
Just a 5-minute drive from Odda you will spot Buerbreen, an arm of the Folgefonna glacier, Norway’s third-largest glacier. The glacier is protected by the Folgefonna National Park, which was established in 2005 to preserve the largely untouched nature area, biodiversity and cultural monuments. After this last stop, it is time to head back to the meeting point in Eidfjord.
